Sandler's "Secret" Success

"Secret," remixed by Eddie Baez and The Orange Factory, took the
dance crowd by surprise this summer with the catchy chorus "I
trimmed my buuuuuuuush!" leaving club-goers wondering just what
they were dancing to. "That was a part of the plan," said Warner
Bros. Records Director of Dance and Lifestyle Marketing, Orlando
Puerta. "I serviced the track to the clubs with a blank label, not
stating who the artist was. The hope was that DJs would spin the
track based on the strength of the song and the superb remix. It
worked!" As a result of the success of "Secret," Puerta has
commissioned a weirder project for the near future: A remix of a
straight-up comedy bit from the album featuring a character called
the Gay Robot. "It's a first for sure," said Puerta. "I
commissioned some of the top mixers in the country to work on it."
The idea is to lay down a beat behind the bit, which features a gay
robot propositioning a group of guys watching a football game. The
fact that this flies in the face of conventional dance world wisdom
is not lost on Puerta, "The Gay Robot is a lot of people's favorite
skit on the album, but this new track will truly be an experiment." |
