Poker Strategy
Before joining a poker table and playing, just sit there and observe. Notice how the individual poker players play the game: who takes chances and who's more precocious, whether a certain body movement gives away someone, etc.
In your first round at a new poker table, don't play too risky. You might have missed out on some point of the game, a mistake that would cost you money. Also, and this might not be very nice to admit, sometimes people are dishonest, so watch out that the game you've joined is a fair one.
Know the Exact Rules of the Game
Don't go into a game without knowing exactly how it goes and what its rules are. Not only is that unprofessional and might make other players mad at you, it's also a weakness which they might take advantage of. Know the rules, and no one will hustle you out of your money. Know the rules, and you can argue back. Know the rules, and already you have a big advantage over a player who isn't so familiar with them.
Make Sure you've Got Enough Money
Before you go join a poker table, count your money and then approach the table and ask to hear the rules of the game. Sometimes poker tables have special rules regarding antes, numbers of raises, high and low limits, etc.
It wouldn't be wise at all to start a game when you have in your pockets just a few poker chips more than what is required to get in. There is good chance that you won't win the first and second rounds, and have no more money to continue. Thereby you would have lost your money for that evening with no chance of getting it back. A player with brains would always make sure that his money would suffice to loose a few poker rounds and still stay in the game and have a chance to win it all back, and maybe even more.
A good poker player always has in his pocket a much larger sum than what is required as the limit. We would recommend having the minimum ratio of forty to one.
